I have been looking all day at work and could not find anything that was really useful on this. I want to make a CAI for my 2002 5.9 and I was wondering if anyone(I know someone has had to) do this without keeping the stock piece right on top of the throttle body. I like how the PVC goes directly on the throttle body like on the 4.7s and 5.7s, but is this possible for my 5.9? Thanks.
The only way I know to have a direct fitment from the throttle body ditching the stock elbow piece is to use the old school round air cleaners. You can search in the 2nd gen section and find a crap load of guys who have done that.
Open element old style filter = HAI Hot air intake
Get a dual horn air cleaner assembly from a 83-85 Mustang GT then run both cold air tubes to the front of the truck.
Heres a couple pics of how mine is set up. I just used the stock bend coming off of the throttle body and attached my chit pipe with filer to it like so.
