the superchips does allow minimal trans options with the 03 (i.e. certain shift points, increased rev limiter (which isnt necessary with this cam anyway), and just firmer shifts overall).

I suppose it would be most cost effective to just run a DSP to tame the cam (SC cant change the idle so its entire engine tweaking ability is garbage for this cam). Maybe i'll get the $500 cam/springs/rods, and buy a $400 tuner (DSP), totalling $900, then sell my SC, and put that $200 towards the torque converter.

As another note, i talked to some guys at the base auto hobby shop today (most of them are former mechanics). i was asking if they had any of the specialty tools to do a cam swap. one thing led to another and they kept insisting that its a good idea to just change out the rollers also. I tried to tell them its not necessary, and it requires a teardown of the entire topside of the engine instead of just taking off the valve covers, especially since my truck only has 30k miles on it. was there any validity to their comments?

Like chef said, no need for rollers. There are tons of guys with cams and stock rollers.

I used nto think changing the lifter was also needed as this was a must with older vehicles and engines but was explained flat tappet lifters had to be changed because of the way they mated with the cam lobes. But roller lifters are different because they do not skid across the lobes like flat tappets do but rather roll.

Here AF, This may be something you might want to look into so you can keep you SC and run a more aggressive cam too.

thanks for findin that truckin. Seems like a pretty ghetto-fabulous fix. I'm probably gonna either do a DSP/SC stack or just run with DSP. I just dont think i could trust that splitsec product... reminds me of the ebay powerwires "gain 50+ hp and 100 mpg"

ditto on that! in my experience, when something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

I think you can use what is called psc 1 or something like that. Its what the guys were using a couple years back when there was no custom tuning available. It can advance and retard the timing. Might be something to look into.

so what shift points can i change? as far as i know there is no where on the tuner to adjust trans paramaters... or is it just incorporated into the tune?
sorry to keep asking you questions in your post
