Default New Tires

Hey guys just a quick question i couldnt find a definite answer on tires. im looking at getting some Nitto Terra Grapplers for my 04 4.7. i have the 17x8 stock aluminum wheels. is a 285/70/17 too wide of a tire? with the stock size that is on them now the sidewall is really close to the upper ball joint/ a arm. just want to make sure they will fit before i order them.

thanks

It might be tight, especially with the backspacing on stock rims. You might want to play it safe and go with 265/70/17s, or just go measure the width of your current tires. The 285/70/17s measure 11.3 inches according to Nitto's site.

Player, do you have a level on your truck and are you 2wd? I got a 2wd with a 2" coil level and I run a tire just a little larger than you have and I got plenty of room on my stock 17 x 8's.

nope, get a leveling kit. spacer, spring and then run something that size. it will move all the suspension to where it needs to be. I would suggest the spring.

I have an 04.5 2500 4x4 QC diesel and I have Terra Grappler 285's on the stock rims (same size). No issues, but it's a different truck.

Either way, one thing is for sure. I will never buy the Terra Grapplers again. Oh, they ride good and the traction is good on and off road, but they don't last for diddly. 18,000 miles and they're just about bald. Be ready to rotate them every 2 weeks too or you'll wear the outside edge off the fronts in no time. I don't hotdog the heck out of the truck either and no serious offroading, only when needed.

I even got the load range E tires because of my truck, but they just don't last. To me they aren't worth the very low mileage for what they cost.

I just put them on this past summer, but I'll be shopping for new tires in a few months.

Player, I am running that same size only in BFG's All terrain T/A KO's. Sock height on 03 1500 QC 4.7. As SMKNRAM said they will fit without any problems and it doesn't look like they come close to rubbing. Over 65k miles with no complaints. Great tire and worth the money in my opinion if you want another option for a tire.
