Default SC FP 3865 arriving today - should I wait for plugs?

According to fedex tracking, my flashpaq is on the truck for delivery. Can't wait to see what it will do but wondering if I should. My truck runs good but I have never changed the plugs (66k miles) and it has a half tank of 87 octane gas in it. I want to try out the 91 tune. I want to change the plugs ASAP but the local advance store (typically for this area) doesn't have 16 of any brand plug in stock that will fit my truck. And, there is a winter storm on the way to hit tonight and all day tomorrow. Is there any reason I should wait until I can fill up completely on 91 and/or swap the plugs or can I top off with 91 and go ahead and load the tune and try it out? I want to try it out but don't want to push it if something could go bad on me.

Nobody sells 93 around here, by the way, so I can't top off with that and let it mix with the 87.

yes you should wait to fill up with 91. either set it on the 87 tune since u have 87 in it or just wait bc if you set it on 91 you will cause pre-denotation on your engine...

Is the 87 tune just setup for better mileage, or are there some performance gains in there?

I didn't know that weed. Will definitely check it out as I'm sure I'll have questions when I start using this thing. I've pm'd Scott@SuperChips a few times and he has been very helpful and responsive but I hate to keep bothering the same guy over and over.

I run the 91. better mpgs and more power then the 87.
I would wait to do your plugs for a week or two till you get your tuner right where you want it.
Every truck is differnt, you dont want to foul them out or hit fuel cut and damage your new plugs. Do a few WOT runs and set it right, then swap them out.

So, run some 87 out, fill up with 91, load the tune and tweak it and then change the plugs? Anyone else agree?

Just run out the 87 using the 87 tune. With the 87 tune you will be able to set your 1-2, 2-3 WOT shifts, rev limit and will get some increased shift firmness. Then when it is empty step up to the 91 tune and see how much of a difference you feel (it should be a lot).

The plugs should have been changed a while ago whether of not you got a new tuner. Just change them when you get the chance bc it is something that you need if you have over 60k on the orignal plugs.

Off-road, thanks but I'm beating myself up enough over the plugs. Thanks to this forum, I realize it should have been done twice by now. Frankly, I can't explain how I've missed the boat on that one until now. Fedex finally showed up with my flashpaq 5 minutes ago and I have a lot to do to get ready for this snow, ice, or whatever is headed this way. So, it will probably be next week sometime before I get a chance to play with the new toy.

Thanks all for the feedback.
