Ive got a fairly clear understanding. It would be better with pics or hands-on but this is all Ive got to work with so it is what it is. LOL

I do thank you for your help though.

The reason unperfected was saying you don't just replace the spring with the bag, is because the bag at a nice riding height might be about 5-6" tall. Fully inflated, it might be 9-10" tall. You don't want to run at fully inflated, because it will be riding almost solid, way worse than your truck rides now.

Yeah, it is kind of hard to follow everything with just words, no pics.

What I was saying about the bumpstops, was that even thought the slam specialties bags have built in bump stops, I would put in another set of bump stops, just to keep the stress off the bags.

That makes sense. THX.

Can you guys give me some ideas on how to set up the rear bags? I know you can mount them to the leafs right? Or you can mount on top of the axle.

You can do both setups. You can mount them infront or behind the axle on the leafs, or on top of the axle. But, that is if you stay with a leaf setup, which won't really give you much lift/drop. Unless you mono-leaf it, and that's ghetto IMO. Unless you are towing big loads, I would say 4-link it(parallel or triangulated, your choice) and mount the bags just ahead of the axle on the lower bars. The further forward(closer to the pivot) you mount the bags, the more lift you will have, at a lower psi. BUT, you will have more stress on the bags, more stress on the pivot, etc. So you want to find out your ride height, and your inflated bag height, and set them up there.

This has been a good thread with a lot of information being presented. How high is the bag when deflated? If the sweet spot for the bag is 5"-6" high and the suspension is built to be at the desired ride height with the bags at this height (5"-6" high) how much drop can be expected with the bags deflated? My guess is no more than 4"-5". So with 3" spindles and a 4" body lift sounds like 7" plus whatever tire height over stock. If the bags only drop 5", the truck is still 2" + above stock. That seems a little high for all the work ($$) being done. Solution, use the tallest bag possible?? Just thinking out loud.

As far as bags go, there are a few routes. I'm a big believer in Slam Specialties, had alot of good luck with them. BUT, haven't dealt much with getting maximum lift out of stuff like this. Most bags you see are double convoluted bags. You can get max lift triple convoluted bags, and sleeve bags as well. I think that sleeve bags are more used out back, but I'm not totally sure. I think you may be able to use a sleeve bag up front, and get some more lift. I'll try to look into it.

i see his thread is kinda old but...

What would be the problem with putting the bags right on top of the axle and getting a getting some smaller leaf spring.(less lifted ones)

And what makes it harder to do a 4x4 setup.

Its not too old of a thread. Its a topic I have been following on other sites and trying to learn as much as I can. Look for my threads on this on Dodge Talk and there are a few guys over there that can answer this for you.
