I have a borla xs pro 3" in 3" out in place of the stock muffler and it sounds great. Not to loud until you step on it and it was a easy DIY. It helps to have a welder.
i dont think theres any exhaust that will benefit you more than the other "performance wise". our 4.7s were not designed for performance at all, youtube videos and see which one you like best, ive got through 5 different mufflers on my 2 rams, and a larger magnaflow is my preference because of noise and drone at 2k rpm.
Some people run the flowmaster and love 'em. But the majority will tell you to shy away from them for the rusting problems they have. Just something to think about before you pay for the setup.

Ic it doesnt matter really since 4.7 wasn't made for performance but it does have nice pickup for its size. Was it for economy? Or just Dakotas?Flowmasters rust easily. Well ic single 3' after the y with magnaflow. What size is stock before the y 2.5 or smaller?
Do you just have the muffler with no pipes leading out the back of the muffler??? maybe have it dumped around the back axle with pipe coming out of the muffler or turned to come out in front of the rear tire.
Right now its just the muffler with no pipes but I bought pipes from advance auto to have it pointing out in front of the tire and but the exhasut was quieter and the blowing was just as bad. I will put the pipes on when I can use a lift to weld hangers so I don't get CO poisoning.
Maybe a full system would help?
