Wheel well height of 1500 w/ 4" lift and 35's
I actually prefer the Cragars quite a bit over the new wheels but they're only 17x9's and I just dropped $1600 on new BFG's that I think will look a lot better on the 17x10's than the 9's, of course its always a gamble!
Here's the difference in the look I'm going for....

that difference in stance has very little to do with the wheel width. It is more to do with the offset and backspacing of the wheel. If you blow your hard earned cash on a 10" wide wheel and it ain't got the proper offset and backspacing you are gonna be very disappointed.
A 17x9 with a negative offset and about 4-4.5" of backspacing will get the tire out from under the wheel well quite nicely.
The following illustration will show you how backspacing effects how far out the wheel/tire will stick out from the tire well:

You buddy's offset and backspacing are better than yours for the purpose you want, it just also happens that he has 10" wide rims and you have 9" wide ones. If you had 10" wide ones with your same backspacing and he had 9" wide ones with the same backspacing as his current rims, he'd still stick out further than yours...

Hey sorry to go OT a sec. But still on the suspension genre. I've been looking around trying to confirm for sure, but is it that only the 06+ 4x4 1500's moved over to coil-over suspensions and the 2wd 1500's are still the other suspension (Which would be ? so I know the name of it for future reference). I ask this because I plan on in the future going with a CST 4" spindle lift and noticed it wouldn't work with a coil-over suspension and that other sites mention some 06+ 1500's run coil-overs.
