Hey, I emailed flowmaster today and they said this quoted" The muffler that is recommended for your vehicle is our 50 Series HD (heavy duty) muffler. This muffler is made specifically for your vehicle and it will give you that deep throaty tone your looking for but it will give you less sound than the 40 series but still a fair amount of sound.

If you would like to listen to a sound clip of this muffler please visit Youtube.com, type in Flowmaster tv, and you should be able to listen to all of our mufflers as well as look up installation videos.

That is what fm said when i emailed them. so a nice sound would be the 50 and the lousest muffler for our ram would be 40.

x2 I second that. Get your info straight before you go in there so they don't see you coming and have dreams of dollar signs.

Don't be afraid to use the 'ol the shop down the street said they'd do it for $40 bucks cheaper thing right now too. These muffler shops are hurting for business. Just a thought.

They just tell you that to get you to buy that overpriced 50HD. Trust me, I had it and it didn't have much sound to it, just a little rumble. Now I have a Super 40 and it is much louder than the 50HD. Also, they both rusted up real good real fast. To the OP, go with the AT 3030, you will be much happier.

Yeah that muffler shop sounds a little sketchy. I bought my 40 series, welded the muffler on, had the resonator removed, installed new piping from the resonator delete to the back of the truck all for $100 flat. Labor and everything included.

I've got the 5.7 but the 40 series will handle a V8 fine. The 50 series will flow better with our engines though but you won't get close to the sound. You can also buy the flowmasters in stainless steel. I'd recommend the Cherry Bombs as they flow really good and the sound is beautiful. Here's a little write up on the flow comparison

So let me get this right. The muffler shop here wants 250.00 for a magnaflow exhaust with flowmaster pipes and 3" chrome tips. Does that sound right, or am I getting ripped?

go with the AT3030, it flows better, and is loud as hell. i would be more worried about an at3030 being too loud, than not loud enough. and if that exhaust guy said to leave the stock Y alone cuz its fine, i think its time to find a new shop. i brought my AT3030 to a shop, and paid $90 to have them weld it in, and fab and install a new Y. couldnt be happier.

Say an AT3030 is set as the default sound of 100% loudness. How would the AT3030XL stack up to it ? 65-80% ?

And x2 on the Magnaflow Y-pipe. Or any custom fab to ditch the stock pos.
