Default Need help with finding 3.92 replacement gears

I have a 2004 quad cab 1500 4x4 with 3.92 gears in a Chrysler 9.25. I've checked both the glove box and the tag on the rear axle to confirm this. Recently the rear end started to howl. I suspected the ring and pinion and took it to the shop down the road. They looked at it and told me the same thing. The ring and pinion needed replaced and if I wanted to find the gears and bearings then they would do all the labor without costing me an arm and a leg. Here's the problem. I cant find 3.92 gears for a 9.25 rear end anywhere. I've found 3.90 and 3.91, but with 4x4 I know they have to be the same. Is this close enough? I've seen lots of people upgrading to 3.92, what gears are they using? Any recommendations? Also thought about upgrading to LSD since they would be in there anyway. Thoughts? Thanks.

Maybe find someone who upgraded to 4.10 or 4.56 gears that had 3.92 before. Thats what I would guess.

Don't even bother with the stock ratio, just throw in some 4.10's or 4.56's.

It's not that I don't want the 4.10's, I just didn't want to have to replace both the front and rear gears. Is there any recommened replacement for stock gears? Anybody have any stock rear gears they want to sell?

yea but then he needs to replace the front as well. If you are going to do the gear change, I'd recommend putting in the 4.56s with a Detroit Tru track LSD in the rear. That will be your best setup and will run you around $1500-$2000 with parts and labor.

If you want to just swap out the rear with a replacement, your best bet is getting a set from the dealer, head to a junk yard or find someone that's swapped their old ones out. Not sure, but weed might still have his old ones.
