updates on my trans woes
well, ive been searching around, and searching around. all places locally that will sell me a re manufactured 545RFE want $1900 +/- plus tax and shipping. (total price, well over $2000) i could order a reman off of ebay or other online dealer for $1400-1500 plus shipping ($250) plus core charge ($1000) plus return shipping on core ($250) total price being $1900-$2000. Or option #3, i could order a badass sharadon stage II trans from Moes for $2500 with free shipping and no core charge.
so with the above being said, my choice is obvious. taking into account cost, plus my moto of "make every repair an upgrade" sharadon stage II tranny it is! I had a nice long talk with one of the guys over at Sharadon today. we determined that the best choice for my needs would be a stage II trans and stage II VB. taking into account that this is my DD and i use it to tow frequently. only downside is that he doesnt have any ready to go, and has to build a new one. so expected time of delivery is late next week or two weeks from now. i can live with that, i have my neighbors car to borrow (which hasnt been driven in months, and is now throwing codes, and driving really rough)
im gonna end up borrowing a lil bit of money for this deal. which will in turn drain my cam/heads/headers fund completely. but its necessary, so i gotta do what i gotta do.
Also, drove up to Semi valley today to drop off my Edge converter to Andre at Edge. Let me tell you. Andre and the whole crew over there at Edge Racing are BADASS! totally stand up guys. willing to go the extra mile to make their customers happy! even though it was my tranny that ruined the converter, he is fixing it up for me as if it were a warranty repair. NO CHARGE! he will also be shipping it back to me when its done (est, 1-2 days) at no charge! we chatted for a while, and he totally recommended the sharadon stage II tranny when i brought it up. really cool guy all in all, the whole crew over there are super experienced/kind, and Edge deff has my business for life! cant recommend them enough! not to mention Andre's SRT-8 challenger is BAD F*$&ING A$$!!!
will keep you guys updated when something new happens.

also everyone, dont be hesitant on getting a torque converter because of what I have been through. I can honestly say that I dont think the tq verter had anything to do with my self destructing transmission. nor does Andre over at Edge thing the tq verter had anything to do with it (and after talking with him in person and walking around his shop I believe him)
now for the HD2 kit. i kind of dont think this was the problem either, as all parts of the shift kit wee firmly in place, and it drove find for a couple of weeks. you should especially not be too worried if you just install the valve body portion of the HD2, as there is not a lot to mess up with that procedure.
I didnt mean to scare any of you off of a torque converter or HD2 kit with my situation. I think it was going to happen sooner or later regardless. If you get either of these components, and they are installed correctly, and your transmission is in good shape to begin with, i honestly dont think you have anything to worry about.

very good point. and FYI, after talking to sharadon, i learned that they use the HD2 in their VB's. so that $375 or whatever they cost gets you a preinstalled HD2 in a badass VB. good deal imo
