Always bring your truck to the shop clean as possible. I dunno I think it makes the people there aware that you look after this thing and makes it so much better for the techs to work on. I dunno just a habit I have always practiced with anything I take in like quads, mountain bikes, ski's and especially vehicles. Also if possible like cownboy jonny said watch the truck or sneak the tech a 20 sometimes they let you watch and realistically if they are good they will have no problem if you stand out side or at the window and watch some will even let you in the back depending on shop policy.

It was clean, I just washed it the other day. So anyway I go down there and barge in and their story changed, now my entire rack and pinion setup needs replaced according to them. They said the boot was bulged out and they squeezed it and fluid ran everywhere. Now I know this isn't unusual I saw the thread about it a while back. The thing that gets me is I wouldn't expect it to fill very quickly, if it was that fast of a leak I would think it would be leaving puddles on the drive. When I installed the level I had a hell of a view of the tie rods and the boots and they were not bulged and surely would have leaked fluid as much as I had to move the lower control arm to get that damn spring back in there. So on top of that they claim my balljoints all need replaced (I knew they would go sooner or later), all in with the cost of the steering rack assembly, balljoints, and alignment it's gonna be a nice 650 bucks outta pocket and it won't be done till late tomorrow.

I'm not even gonna f**k with it, I'm so annoyed right now I don't even give a damn. If it's still f**ked up tomorrow we'll see if my old ball bat can fit up their ***.

Question: You said they would have leaked fluid as much as you had to move the lca to get the spring in there. Did you leave the tie rod end attached when you dropped the lca/spindle for the level? I'm just asking because that would be a hellova strain on the seals, etc on the steering rack if you didn't remove the tie rod end from the spindle. You had to stuff a spring and spacer in there. May have caused a leak in the seal doing that????? Just thinking out loud.

That DIY said to leave them attached, so that's what I did. I tried unhooking them too but I couldn't pop the ends loose of the steering knuckle.

The DIY on here, the guy said he couldn't get them undone so he left them on. They should come off man. You could've pm'd me man. If the tool didn't work, you get a BFH and a pry bar and she pops right out. I'm just thinking that that rack wasn't meant to have the end at that kinda angle at all.

Idk, if the guy who posted the DIY never had any problems with his rack and pinion I wouldn't see why I would?

He only posted up on the DIY once or twice after that. He may have had problems afterwords. If his rack went, he may not have thought anything about it being because of the level. That and if I remember correctly it was his friends truck.
