Chrome Intakes S3...very noisy. Help please.
So my CAI came in from ebay today. It's the Chrome Intakes S3. What crappy instructions first off.....
Anyways I was putting it in and noticed that it came with three pieces of tubing. The TB connection ( longest piece ), a straight piece with a 90, and then a smaller straight piece. When I put all three pieces together, it had the filter clear down to the bumper, so I just went with the two pieces and have the filter near my headlight.
Started it up and realized I forgot to put my sensor back on...fixed that and my code light went out. Looks sharp....but holy hell this thing is loud. I've never heard a CAI before so I dunno if what I am hearing is the whistle everyone speaks of. The best way I can describe it is it sounds like you AC sounds on a hot day when you turn your truck off and the compressor is making that hissing sound. You can hear it at startup...and anytime you have your foot on the gas. Quite opposite of what I have read, when I really gas it, I don't hear it. Granted I have straight pipes and it's hard to hear over them.
Sometimes when I am crusing 65-70 the hiss changes to a high pitch whistle like you hear on some rice burners when the gas it. Is this normal and I'm just being paranoid?
SSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Yup thats what it sounds like!

Yup, that sounds bout right my friend. Mine has it, and I have a (horrible) homemade setup. Mine is only audible through different RPM ranges. Hell, really, I don't even hear mine too much, but the Type R's are probably to blame for that
Now, how bout them pics?? You know you can't get away with that

I can't really hear much more air coming in, although with headers and a cherry bomb, I'm sure it's hard to tell. One thing I can hear is the EGR fluttering open and closed. The chrome/metal tubed intakes really act like a megaphone for the EGR unlike the plastic tubed models.
I bought mine thinking metal is always better than plastic, but in this case, if I had to do it all over again, I'd opt for the plastic tube...

I know mine is louder but keep in mind I have two filters and Im pretty sure if I can push more air out of the engine then Im pullling more in. With that being said, we all know they are less restrictive and when you are pulling more air, it will be louder. Dont worry, you will get used to it.

Heres some pics. I can't figure out what to do with this blue hose. It says to put it over the black hose but it won't go on anymore. At the angle it's at, it kinks as you can see. Any suggestions?
