Default Throttle Body Pics

So Ive been having a little trouble with low idle rpms (around 500), so I decided to check out how dirty the TB was. Holy Crap that thing was nasty. I used Non-chlorinated brake parts cleaner and a rag. Check this thing out.

This is when I was done

I took a damp rag and wiped out the part after it, but couldnt get anywhere near all of it.

Anyone know why I could be getting a low idle? Its never been a problem before, but now that I have things hooked up to the battery the alt doesnt charge at such a low rpm. Thanks for lookin!

IDK about the low idle other than maybe a vacuum leak but that TB sure does look better. Did you also check your PCV?

I just cleaned mine for the first time since the truck was new and it was no where near that dirty, not even close. I wonder if being really nasty means another problem . I was surprised at how clean mine was after 79,000 miles. I expected it to look like the one in this thread but actually i could of left it alone but it was off so i cleaned it while it was off. Carb cleaner worked way better than brake cleaner , i had both so i tried brake cleaner first and it didnt do near as good as carb cleaner.

That is nasty. I hope mine is not that bad. I am going to do it and change the plugs once the weather gets nicer here in PA. I don't know if mine was ever cleaned, I have only had the truck for a couple months and don't know if it was cleaned before I bought it.

hmm my atv was pushing gas out of the air filter due to a bad plug. Im wondering if that would have anyof the same effects in an EFI truck

Seafoam is your best bet to cleaning that carbon. You can use it in your tank as well as spray it in your throttlebody. its not cheap but works great. You must have some blow bye or something, i have 145,000 miles on my 03 and it looks new.

No I didnt check any of the sensors. I had to recalibrate the tps of course, and I cleaned off the IAT, it was black like the rest of it and now its blue. Im gonna get all the damn things checked here tommorow or tuesday. Just wondering how easy it is to check the PCV or EGR, It would be real nice to fix it myself. What do I look for if its bad? Thanks alot

EDIT: So I see where the PCV Valve is, so how do I know if its bad?
