Default Looking at used 3rd gens. What are the common problems?

Hey 3rd genners. I usually hang int the 2nd gen secton but I am in the the market for a used truck. I'm sure most of you are aware of the common problems with the 94' to 02' trucks, trannys, jacked steering, cracked dashes, plenums leaking, ect. What are some of the most prevailent troubles with the 3rd gens? We are looking for a 4 door with the 4.7 2wd. Do your trucks hold up any better? I'm keeping my 99' but the wifeys getting the newer one. Thanks!

Crap transmissions and original stock front brakes. 06-08 stereos better than 02-05.

Yeah crap trannies BUT there 70% good to bad shocks blow they need replaced after 30k exhaust is too restictive take that out, gas milage is better than an 01 ranger which aint saying much. Our trannies would last If we didn't beat the snot out of them with our big motors lolall in all a good truck hell i got one earlier this month but they are expensive. be prepaired to spend big bux for low milage.

Fuel mileage sucks in general. Some are able to get decent mileage, I am stuck around 12 mpg now. Hopefully once the weather breaks and I get my summer tires on, plugs changes, and TB clean the mileage goes up. I HOPE.

the earlier 4.7 have be known to be succeptable to overheating and headgasket issues. if you keep the coolant fresh and check radiator for hotspots you should be good. ive heard bad things about the trannys, but a buddy of mine told me to just take out the check valve, he said after around 70k they stick closed and will burn up the tranny. im still looking into that as we speak.

Nice to see they fixed the tranny problems. We had a 1/2 ton 4.7 at work that they got real hot and warped the heads on, but that was due to the way too heavy trailer they were trying to pull. Fuel mileage hasen't improved much over the years either. I can still get 16 hwy out of the 5.9 gasser if I keep it under 70. The nicer one I was looking at had 75,000 and was really clean. They wanted $12,900 but of course I was gonna negotiate that. Still looking though.

Whats a clean QC worth like the one I mentioned? It was cloth interior with pwr doors and windows, cruise, 17'' wheels(chrome) , sprayed bed liner and new rubbers. 75k like I mentioned. Drove real nice, no problems at all. No maintence records though.

too much poon is a common problem of dodge ram owners. And also no more fat chicks. They can't get up into our trucks.
