Default Why is my truck cutting off?

It's a 2004 4.7L with cherrybomb extreme and the cortex on stock setting with speed limiter up. Every time I come to stop my RPMs get real low, to less than 600, and sometimes it'll turn off. I cleaned my throttle body with carb cleaner and scrubbed it with a tooth brush. I have also ran it with the defroster on because my uncle said it might be something to do with that but it didn't help either. Anyone had this problem or know what it might be?

When's the last time you did a tune up?

Never, It's one of my dad's old work trucks and I've only put maybe 5,000 miles on it. The fluids were changed right but I don't know about a tune up. What is involved in a tune up; new spark plugs is all I know of.

Tune up would be a biggy. Throttle re-calibration might do the trick as well (search it, and look in the FAQ section). If you DO NOT stall with the A/C on, it's a sure indication that it's simply that your idle is a bit low. The throttle re-cal, will usually fix that, but you can also bump idle with your tuner. SC does not support that feature on MY '04, but does in later years. In my case, I contacted SC a good 3-4 years ago and had them bump my idle about 200 rpm, fixed me right up...

Well I did the recalibration, which only involves turning the key to ON then pushing the pedal to the floor slowly then letting it up slowly and turning it off right? Didn't help so I ran it with the a/c on and it still didn't help. Going to check the pcv which I could use some pics of so I know what it is and maybe change spark plugs. Does this sound like I'm in the right direction?

So I changed the plugs and got a pcv valve which was only $5 bucks instead of the $30 everyone talks about. Maybe thats for the 5.7 but anyway, It didn't help. The truck hasn't cut off since I cleaned the throttle body but when I stop the idle goes down, the truck stumbles then the rpms go back up and it's fine. Does this mean there is a problem or is my idle just too low? I'm going to try checking my egr and idle air control thing but wanted to know if I need to?

you have a faulty cut off switch in the tranny I thought only front wheel drive chevy's had this problem. It's called a throw out switch when you slow down too a light the switch takes the tranny out of the drive gear its in. if this doesn't happen the vehicle stalls I know i'ts a quick fix I t sure sounds like it. Let us know either way even if it means a trip to the dealers

Can you explain how to get to it and replace? Is it in the transmission or just attached to it somewhere?
