Default Oil Viscosity

Hey guys, I just returned from Prompto to have the oil changed on my truck; I used Mobil 1 Synthetic. After I left I noticed on the sticker that they had used a 5w-30 weight oil even though our trucks call for a 5w-20. Is this something I should bring back and make them replace or is it not that big of a deal? Thanks!

This is yet another reason why I change my own oil.

Here's a thread for you, right here in 3rd gen, where they discuss exactly what you're asking. Search my friend, search!

I'd take it straight back and make them change it, make them change the filter also.

I've been using Mobil 1 10W-30 in my '05 since new with great results and absolutely no problems. It gets hotter here in Texas so that may be a concern for you.

I called them back and he said that 5w-30 was fine if it was synthetic and that they didn't store mobil1 5w-20. He then went on to say that if it meant that to much, they offered 0w-20 in some weird *** generic brand. I intend to call them back tomorrow and demand they get Mobil 1 synethic 5w-20 and replace it and the filter.

Like the man, said, that's why I do my own. Yours is an '05, so the MDS is not affected. Just call it "lesson learned", and move on. It's not that big a deal.

I agree with Mike. Its not such a big deal that you should demand they magically find some 5w20 and do it over. They will laugh at you, making that demand of them is ridiculous. Maybe they should have warned you before they used a weight of oil that differs from what the manual calls for, but its not worth all this trouble.

Just wait until next oil change. When it comes time, go down to the store, get some 5w20, and do it yourself. Don't use the Mopar or FRAM filter like most dealerships do, BTW, use a Wix or Napa Gold (a renamed Wix).
