Winch Swap (pic heavy)
So, I am now the owner of 'Weeds Warn XD9000i winch by way of Pyro.
It is a step up from my long discontinued M9000. Even though the capacity is the same, the integrated XD is more durable and has a much higher duty cycle (can run longer without rests to cool down).
The only down side is I had to give up my 16k pound rated carrier for the 9000k one 'Weed had. The 16k carrier has it's bolt holes in the front whereas the "I" series winches have their bolt holes on the bottom. Unlike the "M" series winches, the "I" series have integrated electronics and the drum cannot be turned. I JUST MADE THAT DAMN BILLET COVER TOO!!!
So here is the old setup:
So I'll be damned if I was gonna put a black carrier back on! So I grinded it down & painted it yesterday:
So, off came the old winch and carrier:
and on went the freshly painted carrier:
Then the winch and fairlead:
and after running the wires for power and installing some shackles, I was done. One nice thing about the smaller 9k carrier is that I was able to use my center cross bar which will not fit with the larger carrier. Dug it out of storage after sitting there over 4 years:
Only thing left now is to mount some Hellas now that I have a center crossbar!!!

I could cut the billet cover I made and only use the bottom 3" and it would work fine, the fairlead holes would bolt right up. But rather than hack this one, I really wanted to make a diamond plate one for the other anyway. The one on the old carrier was basically a test one I made out of scrap aluminum leftover from an LED sign.
I'll make me a diamond plate cover for this one next time I'm in Georgia, assuming there is power at my buddy's shop and the bank ain't taken it yet. Or I may just cut it by hand.
yeah, I really hated losing that heavier carrier, especially with going to a heavier duty winch, but I WAS NOT going to pass up an opportunity to upgrade my winch when I had the chance to do it cheap (and I mean CHEAP!!!) just because of the carrier. I thought the billet cover I made for it really dressed it up nicely!
This one will look jam up as soon as I make a diamond plate cover and mount a couple of lights.
BESIDES, NOW MY DAILY DRIVER IS GETTING THE OLD WINCH!!!

You can't go wrong with the winch. It's the same capacity but it has a better cycle like you said (perfect for golf carts)lol, and you already have something in the works with the other one. I wish I had one of those bad boys, I'd take that billet cover off your hands. All that's left is the lights and some kinda grill. Lookin' good man.
