Huh. So, it *is* "Heavy Duty"
When I first got my truck (1500 4wd 5.7) I got the bed topped off (level with the top of the bed) with 2 inch rocks for a landscaping project I was working on.
Suspension bottomed out, tires near flat (with 50psi in them)...it was a slow ride home. The motor and trans carried it well. The suspension did not.
I have a pic somewhere Ill see if I can dig it up.

By ratings on the side of the truck 1500,2500,3500
(1/2),(3/4),(1/1)- Ton
I thought these were the weight ratings of what the "Pay Load" is on the particular truck.
2000 pounds in the bed is alot of weight, but even my 1500 will carry it but its not the taking off or hauling its the stopping and steering that suffers.

My "3/4-ton 2500" has a rated payload of 2,700 pounds. Not quite double "3/4-ton".The increasing numbers still represent an increase in capacity, but you have to actually check specs now.
1500,2500,3500 and 1/2,3/4,1-ton used to be more closely related, but as consumer demands have grown and manufacturing has advanced, they are... more like guidelines.

Thnx for the info. Thats why I'm here to learn small stuff like that.
Alone we are just 1 but together we are many. LMAO.
Very impressive, those are real trucks....
I didn't think you could actually put stuff in the bed.. well I do put a case of oil and a filter or two at times in there.
I guess thats why I have mine covered up.,,,,
Seriously, I occassional pull an enclose 12' motorcycle trailer. But that is as much work she ever gets.

FWIW - braking was noticeably different (not in the least "bad" or "scary", just different). Handling was the same. The ride was a bit smoother with the rear spring compressed.
Gasguy - not bad for stock
