Will the elec. co. charge you to come out and pull the meter? Just long enough to put a new main in anyway. That's really not safe for anyone to be working on. You'll be lucky if it throws you accross the room and doesn't stick you to it.

frog just pull your meter yourself, then when you get the new breaker or box whichever, you just plug your meter back in

Frog don't pull the meter unless you got a good story for the power company as to why you cut the tag off. You'll be fine just go slow and be careful, for a little added insurance wrap the whole shaft of your screwdriver with electrical tape except for the very tip. I've changed hundreds of those pushmatic breakers hot with out any problem, they were the cadillac of thier day,the only downside now is replacement breakers are expensive and hard to find.

Great idea on wrapping the shaft, thanks. Knowing this area, I'd probably get prosecuted for power theft if I pull the meter! Believe it or not, homedepot now carries the breakers in stock. I've only had one go bad in the 5 years I've owned this place and the box is in great shape. Clean, no corrosion, no rust, etc.
