I wish you guys were closer. I have an old pushmatic box. If you're not familiar with them, they don't use modern snap in breakers. The breakers are screwed in. It's in fantastic shape so I have no plans to change it, but it has no master disconnect. That means when I install the new breaker it will be live as I'm screwing it in! Pray for me.

why dont you just replace the box? they're cheap... like $100 for a 100amp service (which is all you need in a garage anyway being that its most likely a branch off the primary box in the house)

either way, the upgrade is cheap george. is it worth the $200 or less to not zap yourself with the entire service? God help you if you touch that main service wire... i promise you'll be seein stars and wondering where you are. 110v is a tickle... that main feed will literally throw you a few feet

I can't change the box any easier than changing the breaker- I have no master disconnect.
