Thinking of Buying a 1500 Ram But....
Well i figured i asked you the experienced guys now right off the bat we known pretty much all SUV or Trucks are gas guzzlers. Currently i own a 2000 Dodge Durango with the 5.2 V8. its horrible with gas.
Now i am goin to sell it and was looking for something better on gas but the trailblazer, expoleres even with the v6 get like 13-18 to the gallon.
I want the 1500 qud cab with the 4.7 not the Hemi. its a bad *** truck and i need it
I was curious to know how many of you guys ahve the 4.7 and what would u say youa re getting on average miles per gallon on the street and highway.
I know its gotta be somewhat better than the 5.2 v8 i have now but what do u guys think about the avg. with the 4.7?
thanks,
Mike hopefully a future 1500 owner

i have the 4.7 Manual transmission....when I dont gun it at the light, coast down hills and stay under 65 on the highway i got 17.4mpg with my intake and exhaust. thats half around town and half highway. when i drive like i want to i get around 15
Hey Mike, I know you seem to be more interested in the 4.7 cause of the gas mileage, but I have a Hemi, and I get roughly 15 - 16 mpg and the only mod I have is the K & N intake (roughly $230 on Ebay). So don't let the gas mileage scare ya if you want the Hemi. Just my $0.02.
I get about 1 mpg better with my hemi than I did with my dakota with the 4.7. Both are 4x4 QCs. If mileage is a major factor, you will be disappointed in the Ram reguardless of your engine choice (except for the CTD). Having owned both, get the hemi. You will get better, or just as good, mileage and have an additional 110 HP for less than $1000.
Oh yea, Check this thread https://dodgeforum.com/m_181078/tm.htm

I recently bought an '02 Ram RC/2wd it has the 4.7 and 3.55 gears and automatic. I had sold my Durango w/5.9 and 3.92 gears a couple of weeks before, I was tired of 11-13 mpg. My Ram gets 16+ in all around driving and close to 21 at a steady 60 with the cruise on, it is bone stock and has 17" wheels with 245/70's. It does have a bed cover. It is a very low option truck and I'm sure that helps. The worst mpg I've had was all in town at 14.8. Frankly, I have no reason to lie about, so those that don't believe, O.K.
WXMAN- ill take a pic of my computer setting...17.4 when i baby it, 14-15.5 when i stomp on it...i think its at 15.5 right now since i went to the drag strip last week. couldnt break 17's[&o] in the 1/4
