thanks dirty dog. I'll follow your advice and do the filters and the tranny fluid. I'm thinking i'll also do the radiator too, and add the purple ice.

my neighbor put rp in everything on his truck and he gained 3 miles to the gal and his trans went down 100 deg and it didn't matter if he was towing or not.

now that's worth the investment! 3 mpg is huge in these trucks. The savings pay for themselves in a few tanks. Thanks for sharing. What kind of truck does he have?

I wouldn't go through the changes to only try and save mpg's. If it happens then great, but i wouldn't expect to see much of anything.
The Rams have Synthetic in the transmissions and rear diff's directly from the factory, so I can't see how a huge gain would be in order going from Mopar synthetic to RP synthetic. Maybe on a truck that has conventional factory going to synthetic may pick up some mpg's...???
I suppose anything's possible, but I would reccomend you not to expect that out of fluid change alone.
Some guys go easy on their vehicles after fluid changes and therefore see huge gains just because of that, or their fluid was so disgusting it was causing parasitic drag and the "new" fluid just gave back what was lost, so there are lots of variables to be taken into effect.

Dirty dog is exactly right, and I am not sure if his was or not, it is a 97 reg cab short wheel base with 318 automatic but from the sounds he doesn't drive it any diff but from my stand point just for the temp change in the trans is benefit enough for me because that's the years that the trans were for sh$$t and any help you can get them is diff a bonus and he has trans temp gauge because he pulls a trailer a lot

[quote=itsahemi4x4;2065190]$11 bucks a qt? WTF. at what mileage would you guys recommend changing the tranny, diffs, transfer, and radiator? i just turned 83k and want to make sure i'm not jumping the gun. I do mostly hwy miles, about 80 miles/day, and the truck is pretty much stock cept for CAI and Exhaust.I don't romp on it (can't afford the gas for the loud pedal), but need this truck to last for a long time.[/quo

I didn't reaize they cme fromthe factory with synthetic. The engine oil too? I know my truck has had amsoil in it for the majority of it's ife, but I can't find it localy. I did find some mobile 1 5w20 in the jug at wallyworld for 23 bucks. Figured I'd start there, unless RP is that much better.

I ran RP in everything on my truck untill recently. I got the opertunity to get Amsoil at the same price I was paying for RP so I figured what the hell Ill give it a try. I changed the engine oil to Amsoil and really don't think Im seeing any difference. It is said that Amsoil holds up better but Ill see when I get close to the 5K mark I'm gonna send a sample to Amsoil to be tested. Other than the engine tho I run RP in everything else.

I promise yuo no one is seeing 3 mpg from changing everything to RP. Something else happened if it wasnt mental or bad math.
