Default '05 Hemi Problem

My '05 Hemi has 1500 miles on it, and now it has it's first problem. After starting the truck and placing it into "drive" there was no engagement of the tranny. After approx. 4-5 seconds, the tranny kicked in hard and now there is a check enginge light on. The tranny will eventually go into all gears, but with a very long delay with increased RPMs. Any ideas before it goes to the dealer??

P.S. The truck worked fine the last time it was driven. This problem all happened from a cold start.

A Dodge service station told me there were 7 transmission fault codes stored in my Ram with the major problem being the tranny fluid was overfilled at the factory. This caused the tranny to slip which subsequently means replacing the transmission at 1500 miles. Oh, and they stated that tehy could fit my Ram into their service in the begining of June!!!! VERY, VERY disappointed with my Ram thus far.

Sorry to hear about that. Hopefully this will be the last problem you have. Not to many major problems with the newer one's. I have only had one problem to date and that was a bad amp from the factory that was replaced before delivery.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Have you tried to see if another dealer can get you in quicker? I've seen these types of problems with Fords and Chevys as well. Ford was by far the worse. Sorry to say the most reliable vehicle I've owned was foreign, but I am VERY VERY satisfied with my Ram (so far).

EDIT: Don't you hate it when you are typing so fast you leave out a key word that totally changes your intent?

Okay, I'd like to stick my 2 cents in here.

First off, I'd be all over the original dealer about a brand new truck whose tranny dropped out before even 2K miles were on it. I'd demand immediate replacement of the tranny and, if that weren't possible, simply a whole new truck. They'd fight tooth and nail to avoid the latter, but if you start throwing around the "L" word (hint: it's a yellow citrus fruit) they may get the picture real quick.

If that's not an option, then talk to the service manager of the dealership you're taking it to and demand better service. I cannot imagine going a month without you new truck because they can't "fit you in"!

Lastly, call Diamler-Chrysler directly! Mucho red tape, but I bet someone would take care of you...

I agree, there is NO NEED to wait. They should be able to fix that within a week, mainly because I would think it would take a couple days to get a tranny. Raise hell and threaten Lawsuits and Lemon/replacement truck, it will get fixed fast.

1. I bought the Hemi from an out of state Dodge dealer.
2. Another Dodge service dealer other than the one that can't fit me in until June will "try to see what they can do" this week (I left the truck at the dealer). The 2nd dealer is booked and is currently taking appointments for nex Thursday (one week from today). I believe that if a dealer has overbooked their appointments that far in advance, and has no wiggle room for an emergency repair, there are far too many needs for Dodge service.
3. I spoke to Chrysler, and they stated that there is NOTHING they can do until the truck has been looked at by the dealer. So, I'm left waiting with no vehicle......this is a GREAT situation to be in.

You're probably right. You should probably sell your junky Dodge as soon as possible and buy a Toyota.

Or, is it possible they are making a business decision and not bumping the routine maintenance work (oil changes, tire rotations, tune-up, brake jobs, etc) on their customers cars for the sake of the less profitable warranty work on a dodge bought somewhere else?

I understand your disappointment, but it'll all work out.
