You have lots of room to space them out on the 02-05 trucks. My 6x9 fronts must be spaced out about 1.25" I just used rubber grommets as spacers and have not rattles or anything. Worked great. Just another option if the speaker you bought are too big.
If your looking for the best sound, get a 6 1/2in component set for the front doors (any Best Buy can fab brackets out of abs board) and 6 1/2 for the rear. The rear will be a tight squeeze or you might have to bend the speaker openings just a little bit. I run infinity kappa perfect 6 1/2 components in the front doors of my 2008 and they are one of the larger speakers, they fit no problem as far as depth!
I have the same problem with my 08' Ram Laramie, the front door speakers just flat out suck. When I went to that link posted from Kicker, it shows that I would need to replace "Front 6x9 midbass (2) + 3.5" 2-way (2)" Is their multiple sets in each door?
From the sounds of it, all I can hear from the door appears to be base, and not audio. Is that where the (2) 3.5 2-way come in for audio?
Thanks for the help guys.
You have the infinity system if you only get bass from the doors. The 3.5's go in the dash.
I don't have the infinity system and put the full range Kickers in mine and it made a world of difference.
