Default Extremely annoying noise Help

I've done some thread searching and can't come up with the exact same noise so I figured I would see if anyone has any ideas.

I have a noise when I turn or hit a bump. It kind of sounds like a bed spring stretching. I can turn all I want when not moving and it won't do it, it only does it when moving. When I hit a small bump it also makes the noise. I believe its inside the cab as with the windows down it still sounds like its right near the steering wheel. I can get out and rock the truck sideways or front to back and it won't make the noise. I have taken apart the dash about 4 times now and wd40'd everything. It is still doing it. My next idea is to lay on the floor while my wife drives to see if I can get close enough to hear where its coming from exactly.

I had a similar issue with mine for over a year. Try twisting up your hood bumpstops on the front rad support. Sounds silly but it worked for me

I tried that already after reading about it on another thread. I guess it could be possible I didn't go up enough but the hood doesn't move at all once latched. I'll try to go up further. It sounds like its coming from right under the steering wheel or down towards the parking brake release. It started about a couple of months after I did my lift so I figured that could have something to do with it.

I have also thought I might lift the front end and see if it does it when turning. Being that it doesn't do it while sitting still I doubt it will though.

Its always hard to describe a noise without you hearing it. I guess I would describe it as a squeak or click. It really sounds like when you take a stiff spring and stretch it or bend it and it might make a noise. When turning it will continue to do it the further you go. For example if i start to turn you hear a click turn a little further click click.

I thought maybe it was in the suspension but like I said jumping on the bumper or shaking the truck side to side there is no noise. I really think its in the steering somewhere because I can turn very slightly and make it do it. That would pretty much eliminate body shift from my lift since it will do it on such slight bumps or turns. The fact that the steering only does it while moving is what confuses me.

clock spring, i snapped mine when doing a rack and pinion swap, it made a clicking noise and that same sound when i turned but it did it anytime i turned the wheel. it prevented me from turning the wheel fully till i torqued it and it broke the clock spring. donno if its the same problem but that sounds the same to me. the sound came right from the steering wheel.

Good idea I'll check it out. Where or what is the clock spring?

well i donno how to check if its going out. the sound will be coming from the steering wheel, if it goes out completely you will get a airbag light on and loose horn/ any buttons on the steering wheel.

they are about 120 bucks to get fixed too. kinds of a PITA cause you have to disable the AB system and have a steering wheel puller.
