Default I cant win. Compressor is shot.

Well for the last month or so my truck has been making a squealing noise like the brakes are worn. I checked all the pads and rotors and all was well. It confused the hell out of me. It would only make the noise on take off. So i looked at my passenger hub since the other one was in two pieces out of nowhere in dec. It seemed worn so i replaced it. Noise didnt stop. Got in the truck friday and heard a horrible noise from the motor. The pulley on the compressor was wobbling real bad. It sounded worse with the clutch engaged. So i limp my truck home and find out its going to cost at least 450 in parts from NAPA. The shaft bearing are shot and were squealing unload from take off i assume. So thats my awesome day.

On top of all this. I need new ball joints soon and my passenger window only works half the time from the drivers side panel. I have also found crack number 4 in my dash.

Not trying to tell a sob story, but my god this is killing me being in college and fixing this thing. I cant win. Poor truck only has 88k on it and is well taken care of.

My plan is to find a low mileage compressor from a junkyard if the price is right then buying a part store knock off for big money. Napa demands a new dryer and Orpheus tube to warranty the compressor. Advance wants all that and a condenser!

Anybody have to replace their compressor?

Man, I'm sorry to hear about all that. Repairs are not fun. If you haven't replaced the steering rack yet, you might start lookin into it your gettin to about the same mileage mine had when it went bad.

Oh great. Mines an 02. How much does that lovely part cost? Mine has the awesome power steering in it too. thing will go 6 months and not loose a drop of steering fluid. One day i can start it and it will be bone dry and not a puddle or wet spot near the truck.

I'm also very jealous of your 5.9.

Sorry to rant but it just kills me. Like the tow hooks. They dont make tow hooks for the 02 half ton because the front mounts are not the same as the 03 and up. I have to fab something.

The rear pinion seal went out at 50k. After research apparently dodge had a bad run of them from 02 till about 03 or something. So of course there is a TSB on it but no warranty. So that was an awesome 100 bucks gone.

The thing at 30k had a head light letting in moisture and clouding up the light. Had to buy new headlights.

The biggest thing is the damn dash really pisses me the hell off. It shouldnt be so brittle wiping it down lightly with a damp paper towel breaks the webbing on the defrost vents.

Again sorry to complain. Anyone else have my horrible luck?

I think you've got a lemon man, I haven't had one really serious issue yet. I mean the power steering rack, rad, and plug coil is all I've had done as far as major work. My dash still looks new and not a crack in it, i don't understand why yours is having so much trouble. Does it sit in the sun a lot?

^^ Bingo. But i would still do what NAPA says as the reason for a bad compresor is one of 2 things. Debris is circulating OR you were low on oil in the r-134a mixture. Eitherway, your bearings are chaffing off material and is causing floating debris. So most likely, you will have some sort of floating debris that will stay in your system and could cause failure to the new compressor.

No it doesnt. It was garage kept for a few years before i had it. Then the last 3 years its spends most of its time in a parking garge out of the sun. The interior is blue which doesnt help i'm sure.

I planned on doing the drier. The compressor still works fine. Its the pulley making all the noise. When the compressor is off the pulley still makes the noise. The system still has prefect charge. Air even blows cold with the thing making noise on a hot day. So its not the input shaft of the compressor. Its the clutch/bearing/pulley on the front of the compressor. Right?

Where is the Orpheus tube on these things?
