no rh was unsure of the process and whether or not there is a difference between the 1500 and the 2500 fluid changes. you need that done big time. 121k is too long a time on the same oil.

 

This is the one fluid change I haven't completed yet. How many miles did you have on yours when you changed it rocket23? I am at 34,000 now. It has done some light towing of a bass boat for pretty short trips, the rest have been highway miles mostly. I guess I'll have to bust it out some time soon. My last truck was a GM and I never changed it, 100,000 plus miles but that is no reason to not change it on this truck. My wife had a rear end go out on a ford exploder, not a cheap fix.

 

Ramhunter, you are gonna need 3 quarts of 75w-90. and you shouldnt need RTV, there is a reusable gasket on the cover. ive got a DIY in the faqs section. it was on my 2500, check it out. 75w-140 is for the 1500s dont use that. and watch out for the bolts on the pan cover, they are very similar to the tranny pan bolts, and the heads will shear off without much force. thats why i chose to pick up some stainless grade 8 bolts from NAPA.

Thats what I am going to use, along with the Mag-Hytec covers when I change mine out. Keep in mind that the rear diff requires the Synthetic (red label) version, the front doesn't care (dino or syn)



The Lucas supposedly also has the LSD additive as well, so hopefully nothing else will be needed.

And, for us 'lesser men' who drive a 2WD, our first change isn't until 70,000. Doing the job this weekend, as a matter of fact.

Also, either use RTV sealant or a gasket, but not both!
