Rear differential question.
Hello i just purchased a 2003 dodge ram qaud cab wih 128k mint condition exterior motor and all, but the only thing that concerns me and not sure if its normal is when your at a dead stop and u cut the wheel to make a turn he rear end feels like it locks a little or almost kinda skips on one wheel, hard to explain. It has the 3.92 gears
I would pull the diff cover, do a visual inspection of the gears and make sure you have no Clips broken off in there, and refill with the proper lubricant and 4 oz. of friction modifier...

yes thanks i read the c clip thread you started its really crazy that dodge does this i will check it out sometime this weekend. i ran across the mobil full sythetic gear oil with the friction mod in it is that good enough?
I'm not a big fan of the friction modifier already in the oil.
I'd rather be able to add a little at a time, to have control over what's in my diff.
Start off with the 4oz previously mentioned and do several figure of 8 tight circuits both one way then the other, to mix it all up in the axle.
If you still feel a little shuddering/chatter, add an ounce at a time until all's well.
I don't know if you can have too much modifier in an oil, but at least using the method I described, you know for certain that you have just enough and your LSD will work at it's optimum.
Would too much modifier stop the LSD performing at it's fullest and cause slipping........????? I don't know? It's a clutch pack mechanism so too much would make it slip just as too little makes the clutch pack grab.
JMHO.
