aftermarket stereo install questions
Hello, I have a 2008 Ram 1500 sport. Its got the non-nav factory radio, also has satellite radio. Is it Sirius or XM? I dont have audio controls on the steering wheel. From what I understand, I will need to get the nav-type bezel to install an aftermarket DD radio.
Im not sure, but I think it has 7 speakers, but how can I tell for sure? I know it has 4 door speakers, but it looks like there are 3 speakers right under the windshield. At least there are grille holes there. Lets say there are speakers there. Are they on the front or rear sections of the radio? And how is that center speaker handled? What if I want to install 4 new aftermarket speakers and an aftermarket head unit, and forget about the 3 under the windshield... does the wiring harness from the back of the radio go to the door first, then to the other 3 speakers?
What all adapters will I need to install an aftermarket radio?
Is there an audio amplifier external to the factory radio? Like maybe a 5 channel amp or even a 7 channel amp?
I bought the truck used, someone installed a Parrot 3200 LS bluetooth console. Even when the radio is turned off, it still sends audio to the speakers during a phone call. How is this possible?
Im trying to get everything I need so I only have to take it all apart once.
Is there anywhere I can go and put in my VIN and have it tell me what all it came with?
Thanks for all the help, My last install was a 2002 chevy trailblazer, and it was very straightforward, Im just so confused with this new stuff.

You will be able to see the speakers up there if you can see in there, and you will have an amp also if you have the 7 speaker system. Dodge will send you that, you just request it though customer service.
You will need the wiring harness like always and some people buy a can-bus (i did) or just wire the radio into your constant (cigarette lighter) I have no idea about the Parrot.

Sorry for jumping in on your thread like this, but I thought this would be as good a place as any.
ok well the way to tell if u have 7 or 4 speaker is do u have sound coming from the dash. if not u dont have an amp. with the amp u can just by pass it or by the adapter that runs the amp. i did and it sound pretty good. its like a buck fifty canadian and easy to install. very easy to install. if not the buy pass is a bitch u have to tear the dash apart.
now if u dont have an amp then its just like any other deck.

ok guys thanks for the help.... this info give me more ideas....
how many channels is the factory amp? there are 7 speakers, so Im guessing 7? Or maybe they run the left and right front door and windshield speakers on the same channel, making it a 5 channel syste? Will a CAN audio adapter give me access to all 5 or 7, whichever it is?
Id really like to integrate this amp into my system.

No the CAN-BUS is for the accessory power situation (there is no ignition power to the factory radio) you have to get a separate bypass for the factory amp (which is the way to go) because the radio doesnt adjust the volume, it tells the amp to up the volume.
An aftermarket HU with the factory amp will sound like crap. Your best bet would be to get some components up front and seperate tweeters, and if you weel like it putting two 3.5 or so in the front. Alot of people with the Infinity system scrap it

im also planning on upgrading the speakers, not just the HU. How are the current speakers wired to the existing amp, series/parallel/ channels/etc as far as impedance? Id like to know what kind to get to match things right. The crutchfield site says the 4 door speakers are 4ohms which I find odd as far as stock equipment goes, so I dont know to trust that or not.
The crutchfield site says nothing about the 3 speakers under the windshield
