Default 5.9L swap will it fit

Hows it going I am fairly new to the forum however i have been reading threw past posts for quite some months now. This is the question, I have a 2005 4.7L dodge ram 1500 automatic. I was wondering, what all i would need to swap out the motor with a 5.9L (gas) as far as wiring harness, computer, transmision if necessary. also what year would be best for a donor vehicle. also will I need diffrent motor mounts and will it fit or will I have to make adjustments. Any help that you can give me will be appreciated thank you.

IMO cheaper to trade off and buy what you want . unless your doing the work yourself .

Dude, unless your gonna do some heavy engine mods f**k the 5.9. I have one, it's a freakin GAS HOG! Drop in a Hemi instead, it will be less time consuming, more fuel efficient, and have a sh*t load more power. Just my 2 cents though.

+1, unless you're talking about the 5.9L Cummins. Then I vote for that one!

IMHO if you're not willing to buy another truck with what you want, it's just easier to get a motor and tranny that is already rebuilt to install. You should also go with just a basic motor with a carb and distributor so you don't have to mess with all the retro wiring you're gonna run into and get all p!ssed off trying to make work. The only reason I see you getting a 5.9 is that they last forever but trying to find a used one with low miles in a doner vehicle is gonna be hard to find. I can also tell you in my stock 4.7 with larger tires, I out ran a 2nd gen truck with a 5.9 by a half a truck length just two days ago. In my opinion, it's not worth it for sure. I'd pick a better motor to go with than the 5.9. Just my thoughts.

Better motor than the 5.9? If this guy has the gonads to do that swap, then he probably has the gonads to do some pretty mean engine mods to that 5.9. Have you ever played with a 5.9 to even know whats its potential is?

will05ram, first off, welcome to DF. The 4.7 you have could be made to scream, if you want it to. AIRRAM and KRC have several parts that can work for you. Couple of options: trade for a different truck (not an option for me), swap in a HEMI as mentioned above, bore and stroke your engine to nearly 5.7L (it is now possible), or swap in a Cummins. It all depends upon what your end goal is. HEMIs and diesels have more mods available, as I see it. However, AIRRAM has been pushing the envelope for 4.7s
[edit] I forgot. Ramthis has a really mean 5.9L. If not here, check on dodgetrucks.org. There is also a YouTube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiCk8...x=0&playnext=1

There are plenty of turn key motors where he doesn't have to retro fit a 5.9 where he had a 4.7 with the problems with new pcm's etc.

What makes you think that a hemi has for final potential than a 5.9? I mean, you know they are both magnums right?

Did you look at the first link???? The first link the bottom two motors are pumped gas and aren't hemi motors. As a matter of fact the last one on the link is a magnum motor which isn't a hemi at the best price with awesome horsepower.
