Default Cherry Bomb Vortex + Vibrant Resonator= Quieter?

Hey all,
I'm new to these forums, but I have a question I hope someone could help me with. I just had my stock exhaust removed from the cats back (muffler and resonators) and had a Cherry Bomb Vortex 3" SI 2.5" DO with 4 inch stainless tips coming out the back. It's got a nice growl to it but it's a little too loud for my tastes. I don't want to go back to the quiet stock exhaust but I would like to end up somewhere in between what stock is and what I have now. I was thinking of either putting the 1st stock resonator back in before the muffler (which I still have) or picking up a Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator and putting that in. I love the look of the dual tips but my neighbors and wife aren't to crazy bout me waking them up at 6 in the morning when I head off to work. Any thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Put the truck in neutral and push the truck out of the driveway and down the road a bit. (there's your exercise for the day) and start it up about a block away and blame it on those d@mn kids down the block. lol

Seriously if you put a resonator on, you'll bring the sound level down but if that was the case maybe you should have looked at one of the milder magnaflow mufflers they offer. Cherry bomb's whole logo is "disturbing the peace".

First of all, Welcome to DF! Secondly, the resonator is more designed to reduce interior exhaust drone and not so much to muffle the exterior noise. Your best bet if you want something in between loud and stock would be to replace the vortex with a magnaflow. The mags have a nice rumble but at idle and mild RPMs, the exhaust tone isnt overly loud. I've also heard the AeroTurbine 3030XL has a mild tone and flows really good. Both mufflers you can purchase in 3" SI/ 2.5" DO. Cherry Bombs are pretty loud regardless, not much you can do to tweak your current system without replacing the muffler. Hope this helps. I'm sure others will offer suggestions as well. You can also search the 3rd Gen section and find numerous threads on the exhaust system. Also, here's a good thread where others have chimed in on their personal exhaust systems.

Here's an at3030xl with the stock resonator. You may be right Joe, about the in cab noise but you can't hear anything until WOT. I think the resonator does quite it down just a little if you listen between the second and third videos.

Here's one that's outside with the resonator.

Here's one with the at3030xl and no resonator.

the last two vids are of the AT 3030 which is quite a bit louder than the at 3030XL. The stock resonator does to an extent quiet it down but its design is to reduce in-cab drone. Adding the resonator to the Cherry bomb however will not make too much of a difference as the cherry bomb will still be pretty loud.

yeah, I think it's a hoot you bought a Cherry Bomb if you didn't want obnoxious loud. LOL...

You're only real option here is to change mufflers... In staying with Cherry Bomb, the Turbo and Elite are a bit quieter. But Magnaflow, Aero and Borla would be good choices as well...

Just an update. Left the cherry bomb vortex on and put back the stock pre-muffler resonator. I must say it has made a world of difference. Truck growls more than roars now and has made the wifey happy. Happy wifey...happy lifey.
