Service scheduled at dealer - code P0406
My 2005 Ram is throwing a p0406 code and did not pass emissions yesterday. I couldn't get my Actron scanner to clear the code.
I went to the dealer and bought a EGR valve assembly as that is what I figured needed replacing. Having a 4.7 liter, it's location is in such a bad location, I decided to schedule the install next weekend by the dealer.
My five year old truck has 30k on it and I decided to have the front and rear axle fluid changed (per the maintenance manual).
I also decided to have the transmission serviced (flush and fill, new filter). The dealer suggested this (but the manual says to do it at 60k).
Would there be any other servicing that you would recommend at this interval?
The manual says to replace the plugs.
Does this truck have a cabin air filter?

your gas cap probably isnt tight, or went faulty. Seems to be the most common reason for throwing that code. A lot cheaper than payin a shop to change your EGR valve...which shouldnt be bad yet
Odds are it's gonna be the EGR, I've read posts where they've gone bad with as little as 25k on them. I still have my original at 48k miles, but I think I'm gonna replace it even though I haven't thrown a code. Judging on how my TB looked the last time I cleaned it, the EGR has got to be pretty rough.
I think a lot of it has to do in how you drive the truck. I tend to only use mine for trips to and from the farm, so 90% of my mileage is highway as it's 360 miles from here in Florida to the farm.
We replaced one in my neighbors '06 Hemi 1500 QCSB 4x2 last year with only 32k on it. He tends to mostly use his truck for the 4 mile commutes to and from work...

yeah, at 30k you are due for a whole host of things if you have not done them yet.
30k servicing should include ALL fluids (Diffs, tranny, transfer case), spark plugs and filters. Plus a check up of all front end components and a look/see at the brake pads...
Prolly why your all around driving mpg is kinda poor. With the Hemi, AND a good 1500 pounds of extra weight on this thing over stock, I'm still managing around 12-13 mpg on all around driving around town, with about 16 on highway trips. But I am a fanatic on keeping up with fluid changes and over all upkeep...
