Default Those of you with bigger tires..

Might be a dumb question or it might not be . I will be getting 285's eventually and I got to thinking..what if I had a flat? Do you keep your stock size spare tire? Do you buy an extra tire the same size as your tires now, that way you can use the extra as a spare in case of an emergency? I don't want to be rolling down the road with three somewhat bigger tires and one stock size tire, that would look odd, plus I don't know if that will throw off my alignment..

Haha well i once had a jeep with 35's and had to put a stock 31 tire because i blew one up in the mountains, it was a wild ride let me tell ya, but it was only like for 6 miles and my jeep was fine, but i wouldnt be recommending it lol... but i took my spare off my truck and i dont carry one the same size because the only place u have to put it is in the back of your truck.... so if i get a flat and im out in the country, hope the ol cellphone gots service... but 285s aint that much bigger than the stocks so u might be able to get by with puttin the spare on IMO

yeah, that's what I was thinking I could do and just make it fit under the bed where my stock is now? I'm just not sure if I should buy a fifth tire later on, just in case

well if u put a bigger tire as a spare, it might not fit because of your exhaust and other $hit gettin in the way, u could always buy a 5th tire the same size and keep it at the house n if u need it have someone run it to ya, and take it with u only on long trips... but if u get a 8 ply tire like a MT, unless ur doing some hard off roading i dont think u have to worry about blowin a tire

I carry roadside assistance and free towing with my insurance. If the unfortunate event happens that I get a flat, the truck will get towed to the nearest place and I'll have to fork over the change for a new tire.

Knock on wood, I've never had a flat tire in 7+ years of driving. I dont see the added inconvenience of lugging around a spare worth it on the off chance I get screwed. The roadside/towing only costs me an extra $2 a month, so for a $100 tow it would take over 6 years to pay offset the cost

I am still running the stock size spare, it is just a spare, just to get you somewhere to get your other tire repaired! Think about how many vehicles come from the factory with mini spares in the trunk! yeah they look funny, but it is about function not appearance. Now if you have the room, which I dont, and you want to change your spare to the same size then go for it. I just dont see the since in replacing a perfectly good spare just because you go up a size or two.

just keep in mind if you got a spare tire thats smaller and you have lsd on the rear and end up blowing out a rear tire take one off the front put it on the back and put the spare in the front i don't think you want two different size tires on the lsd. and well of course don't use 4WD

^^completely backwards. DO NOT put different sizes on the steering axle. drastically different sizes isnt good on either axle, but it wont hurt anything for a short period if its on the rear. you're gonna destroy something if you've got different sizes on the front axle because of the turning

And we wonder why we blow up tranny's and rearends! Look guy's, think for a second. there are gears in the axles. Engineered for the circumference of both tires. When you switch one out for a lesser size tire you spin one tire quicker than the other. Tearing your shlt up in the process. And I wouldn't trust the front wheels either , but in a pinch I would; too get me in a safe place. But the rearend sorry, af is right tow the girl elsewhere, lest you get more problems than a flat tire. Or like the op is wondering GET THE SAME SIZE!
