Exclamation Looking for a little advice here....

Hey everyone!

I'm new here and wanted to say hi and look for some advice. I'll try to be as concise as possible

I recently purchased an 02 quad cab 1500 only to find out that it had a BHG and now rod knock. I have been looking for a replacement 4.7 but cant seem to find any that have decent mileage for reasonable money.

So my question is this....should I just pull the engine and rebuild it or still go the used route? The body only has 71k on it....

Also is there a pdf floating around of the shop manual?

Thanks in advance everyone....this seems like a very informative forum!

392 stroker! If you have the know-how, at least tear it down and see how bad the damage is. Maybe it's recoverable.

The 4.7s have a history of the same problem you have. If you go for just a new 4.7 swap, you might run into the same problem down the road. If I were you, I'd do some research then tear it down and build up right. By right I mean stronger than the factory made it. Thats where the research comes in. I dont know didly about the 4.7s, just that they have this type of problem

Thanks for all of the input guys....I really appreciate it. I am located in Greensboro NC. about 5 hours from ATL. I guess I will plan on pulling it and doing some exploring as everyone sugested.

AF Hemi....in terms of building stronger what exactly are you referring to? Is there a link somewhere as to whats required?

And does anyone know of a link or PDF for the teardown of the 4.7?

Thanks again guys for all the help.

I think af meant punch her out piston wise ,cam wise hell go manifold headers Oh the list can get very expensive. But start with the rebuild and hone out the cylinders at least then go fom there. Good luck and use a chilton's book they can be ordered on line . Step by step with pictures. Hint hint!!

Just google service manual for '02 Dodge Ram. Here's one that has three links at the top.

http://www.pdfqueen.com/pdf/do/dodge...r-manual-2002/

Some of the 4.7's problems are slugging issues as well as overheating and warping the heads/blowing head gaskets all that fun stuff. Just to give you a few things to look at and research how you can possibly do some upgrades to prevent this from reoccurring.

Thanks again everyone!

Well I have decided to go ahead and try to get it back to my house and pull the engine to at least inspect the damage. There are no 4.7"s remotely close so I hope that this one will be salvageable.

Now, what does everyone use for parts like gaskets etc......just the autozone stuff or the dealer?
