Default Need a new RAM

Hi guys, I have a 2002 RAM 1500 Quad cab 4X4 with the 360eng. I just bought a toy hauler for my desert excursions and my old truck that I love dearly won’t pull it. The trailer is just over 7000 lbs fully loaded, owners manual says I can pull 7100 lbs. My tranny goes into over temp, on long hills or while driving into major head winds. Oh and I’m averaging 3-7 mpg. Anyway this truck has to go, I need a 2500 4x4, I am toying with diesel, but leaning toward the hemi. The truck will be a daily driver. Anybody have any input for me on what they tow and how their 2500 handles it?

get the cummins if you have the coin. that is the only disadvantage (cost), but well worth it if you're able to afford it

Yep, cost and cost of maintenance is a good bit higher with a CTD, but has so many other advantages. Diesel might cost more, but mileage will offset it. If you are gonna pull that much weight on a semi-regular basis, you'll want the diesel. Even if you gotta look around for a used, cherry 5.9 (my personal favorite engine) you will be glad you did...

Get one of these. I will be hopefully within the year. Think I will
take it in white with the bottom 2 tone in white or charcoal. Then
Level on 35's. Sexxy.

and just hope that the new diesel motor holds up better than the 6.0h nooooo!!!!! It's a shame they ever got away from the venerable 7.3 Powerstroke, everything since has been a PowerJOKE...

I will definitely get a used RAM 2500. I’d like to know what kind of weight you guys are pulling and your MPG. Also if the Hemi guys could chime in I’d like their input too.

no way that ford is awesome. My only concern is if your going to spend the money on a diesel make sure it sounds like a diesel. I hate all the new trucks sounding like a gasser. But my eye is on the 2011 ford or the 2010 megacab lifted on 37's.

I have great confidence in Fords in house developed diesel. Navistar is who really dropped the ball on the last few engines. IMO by far the best looking HD with all the right features claiming big power and bigger mileage. I'm sorry but the new Ram HD brings nothing to the table that offers a distinct advantage over the Ford. Not to mention I want my truck to have a nice V8 diesel exhaust note. Sorry but cummins unless we are talking 8+ L of displacement sound like chit.

Cool..so when your engine blows at 40000 miles like the 6.0's, then what? The last(and only) Ford I ever owned spontaneously combusted going 70 down the freeway. By the time i was stopped it was almost completely engulfed...Never was a Ford guy and never will be. My dads 01 f-350 diesel has had the turbo blow up once and the 4WD has been fixed like 6 times for the same problem. Even he said he will never again own a Ford.

Oh and by the way, if the Ford is so much better than the Ram, how come the Ram was 2010 Truck Of The Year?
