Default Remove O/L spring problems!

I ordered a set of drop shackles from Moe's this morning and decided to take my O/L spring out today. I got the spring out no problem and got everything tightened back down. As I took my truck for a test drive I noticed that the steering wheel was turned left as I was driving straight. The truck still drives good, but the wheel is turned about 30 degrees to the left. Would removing the O/L spring have caused this or is there something else that is going on?

First I would make sure the pin through the leaf springs is in the spring perch. Also, make sure that you did not over-tighten the shackle bolts. Then take it to an alignment shop.

I don't see how that would mess with your steering.

That is why I am thinking the pin is not in the perch on one side. That would make one of the rear tires to be forward of the other and would make it so you have to steer to stay straight. At least that is the only conclusion I can come up with.

hmmm never heard of or seen this happening and i've taking plenty of overloads out. If it still drove straight then its going to be in your front end or the rack and pinion. Not sure how you would adjust it. Mine is off a little to the left but its from lowering the front 2 inches.

Well I definitely assembled it back together wrong. LOL! After I took it back apart, I put the pin through the wrong hole in the shackle pack. It was in the hole that was in the back, where the overload spring was removed from. Duhhhh! Oh well... Its all fixed and driving fine now. Not to mention I gained 3/4 inch drop! Once I get the drop shackles installed next week it should sit dead level.

It honestly wasn't too bad. It took me 3 hours from the time I pulled it into the garage until I test drove it afterwards. Just be sure that you have all of the tools set out. It takes basic hand tools and isn't hard to do. Just time consuming.

Jusjay, I replaced the pins with 1/4" bolts after I reassembled them. Atleast if they are ever apart again I don't have to worry with those aggravating pins!
