I know they say good for 100K miles, but I still clean my volant every 3-4 oil changes, just to be proactive and preventative.

Well, I will never go back to a paper filter. I have been using K&N filters eversince 98. They have never let me down.
K&N makes s good quality filter.

I watched a video on the K&N site and they showed that a K&N with 3/4 of crud caked on the filter still flowed better than a traditional paper like wix or fram.

^^^^^ iI can totally believe that. On our crotchrockets we use strictly K&N filters. Both air and oil filters. They're just far superior to all the others.
