powerwagon with locked up brakes (methinks)
Hey everyone I just signed up and am looking forward to contributing to this forum, you all seem to be a bunch of informative people. I have a 05 power wagon and love the hell out of it. No problems whatsoever until today when I was driving and out of nowhere the truck just slowed itself down to a stop as if the brakes were applied. The truck drives in reverse just fine, so I managed to do just that to get myself home (that was an experience). Could this be a parking brake issue? I don't use it much, when I got home I gave the cables a bath with some wd40 and smacked them around a bit with a mallet, but no good. Any advise would be greatly appreciated and like I said I'm happy to be a member. I did try to do a search on this but maybe I'm just no good at searching...
hmmmm im not sure of the manufacturer exctly but i know there are a few out there that program their transmissions or engines upon failure, to slow the truck down and it acts as almost a safety issue so you dont try and drive it and ruin the engine or tranny even more... im sure someone will chime in soon... im just thinking out loud here
welcome to the site and lets see some pics of that sweet power wagon!

Transmission safety modes are typically limited to using third gear only. I've never heard of a vehicle braking itself for any reason.
I'm betting it's drivetrain related, like a seized diff or Tcase or something. Of course I have no idea why reverse would work just fine unless it's a LSD acting up.

Were there any noticeable noises that the truck made? When it slowed down did the truck pull one way or another? I always start with the simplest things. Check your calipers and see if any of them are stuck. Put blocks behind the wheels, put it in neutral, jack up one tire at a time and spin them to see if there's an unusual amount of resistance.
Check the odometer for codes or go to autozone and have it scanned----don't have them clear it until you find out what it is.
I'm surprised you haven't had a mil light lit for some kind of problem in a system somewhere.

yeah no mil or anything. no unusual noises heard. It's very strange. I'm going to solve it one way or another and I'll let you guys know. I figure it must be drivetrain related. Thanks for the help

this might sound F-ed up ... but check your drive shaft and make sure there's nothing bound up. This happen to an old lady at the dealership that brough her truck in.. i think she ran over an old mattress!
Take your truck to a Toyota service place lately? Sounds like a good fix to the sticky gas pedal problem.
I dont think the parking brake is the issue if you are still able to drive in reverse without a problem. Let us know what you find out, certainly not a common issue around here.
