Two questions: Anyone running cat-less and header question
Ok,
Thinking of getting rid of y-pipe along with catalytic converter and shooting the exhuast out from the headers with just a cherry bomb.
Has anyone done this, if so, is it shooting an error code... if not how did you get past it?
Next question, I want to change out the headers because I've heard of the perforance gains that come from that mod. Is it really worth getting the cermic coated ones or will the design difference and half the price be just as good as far as perforance gains?
Thanks!

Not sure what you're asking... if you can do true duals? Yes, but you need to have an H-pipe in there somewhere to connect the two pipes for backpressure reasons. If you take out the cats, you will throw a CEL, but the simple spark plug non-fouler trick will work no problem (look in the 3rd Gen FAQ section for the DIY on it).
For headers, go with longtubes first of all. Shorties have a little bit of gain, but for not much more money you get a lot more performance with longtubes (Pacesetter is the most popular for our trucks). Ceramic coating adds a little bit of performance because it keeps the underhood temps down by sending all the heat out the tailpipes instead of into the metal. The biggest reason you should get them is to prolong the life of the headers. They resist rust/corrosion, etc. They also keep the headers looking nice (mine have 10,000 miles on them and still look brand new). Being in West Texas, you dont have to worry about road salt, but you'll still get heat fading and stuff.
I never suggest non-ceramic coated headers to anyone. Its well worth the price in my opinion.

Ive got TLs with no cats and true duals. With no cats you will get error codes but as AF Hemi said, google or do a search here for how to use non-foulers to get rid of them. ive got 4 brand new ones in my glove box Im not going to use. If you are interested in them then PM me.
Yep, I'd go long tubes. Since you are ditching the cats, it's a sure bet you ain't worried about any emission inspections, so there is NO reason for you to think about anything other than long tubes & non-foulers...
Well,
I went ahead and ordered the headers. I'll have to see about the foulers. I'll end up doing the headers myself, then probably take it to an exhuast shop for the rest.
An H-pipe is just a connecting pipe across the two?

Yes and H-pipe is just that.
As far as you taking the truck to an exhaust shop you may have a problem there. I'm pretty sure that they're not gonna take those cats off for you. If you take 'em off yourself I'm not sure if they'll do work on it. That is unless you pay 'em under the table behind the shop. I'm pretty sure it's law that they can't take those cats off. Hell, there was a guy that wanted the cats to be punched out and no muffler shop in the state of FL would touch it. We don't have emissions testing here either and I may be wrong but I think it's federal law.

Yes and H-pipe is just that.

I wonder if I took the entire exhaust system off, put on the headers, and just drove it there with straight headers and said, "I need an exhuast, just put some cherry bombs and an h-pipe in from the headers out the sides and I will be happy... a very mistfortunate event happened with my exhaust and a large object in the middle of the road!!!"
p.s. I might be dumb, but would like the extra knowlegdge... what does it mean to dump your exhaust?
I think it sounds so convincing that it just might work.
