Cut it to the size of the opening of the scoop that you make. Make the scoop, then get it mounted to the hood. Then worry about cutting it, then fiber glass and paint.

Thats what I would do.

for building a ram air intake could i not just use pvc piping attatched to a homemade cai?
make it like this one below but just homemade.

http://www.truckinweb.com/tech/engin.../photo_01.html

drill a hole into my air box and attatch some pvc piping to a funnel?

im not sure as to where i would have to cut the hood so that i dont get any unwanted stuff in my intake.. such as water and stuff..

I would build a pvc set up. With a rectangle filter right behind the hole you cut. With a grill on the hole (guttah grill maybe)

Well you are going to need to do some fab work under the hood, making the path way out of sheet metal or plastic should not be that hard to do, the thing you are going to really put some thought into is how you want to set it up to drain if any water gets in (and if you drive in the rain its going to get in there).

I could cut a hole in the side or top.. and possibly mold piping to something like this

The thing you are still missing is what is going to happen to any water (from rain or snow) that gets into the ram air setup if you ar running it directly to your intake/TB?

Why are you worrying about the intake right now? Should prolly just get the hood in work first. Cause anything you decide to do intake-wise, might change if the hood scoop idea doesn't work like you plan.

And like truckin said... DONT GET WATER IN YOUR INTAKE OR YOUR ENGINE! Just had to deal with that issue and it's NOT FUN! Worse case scenario is you bend the intake valves... Don't worry about the ram intake just yet.

If I were to do one homemade it would be with 20ga sheet metal and a good MIG with individual beads just like filling doors handles.
