need help. i have heard and seen others swapping the srt8(6.1) cam and valve springs into their 5.7 HEMI and was wanting to know the benefits of this. HP gains, torque gains, etc. Is this swap worth the price. i use my truck to pull my 29ft travel trailer and i am looking to up the power to do so not hurt it. any help in this area will be appreciated.

Most guys who did the 6.1 cam later went back and did something more or bigger. Its not the 6.1 isnt a good cam or not noticeable, its that we (myself included) find ourselves wanting more.

One of the websites that sells the 6.1s (Hensons I think) says the 6.1 is good for 20-25 HP.

Read more about it HERE

If you need some help installing LMK. Maybe we can work something out. If you decide you want more then do some searching as there are lots of threads on cams.

6.1 cam sucks

Figure out what you want your truck to do, and then find the right cam for that. If you want more top end, there are better cams. If you want more bottom end, there are better cams.

EVERYONE who I know that installed a 6.1 cam ended up taking it back out, either for a 3rd party cam or in some cases to put the stock cam back in. All the gains are in the extreme upper rpm range and there is a VERY noticeable low end torque loss. Something that is NOT good in a heavy truck...

The single best thing you can do for towing is to re-gear...

Maybe a TC? Also do you have a programmer to set your shift points yet?

No, when I say RE-GEAR, I'm talking more like 4.56s...

Ive said it before but I will say it again also.

With my truck and mods and 456s, I spin 2000 rpm at 70 mph.
