Gear trouble :(
hey guys I have and 08' dodge ram 1500 4x4 LSD and I hauled the case apart today to change the oil and found that a tooth was broke off of my spider gear, funny that thats the only thing damage. but my question is does any one know how many teeth are on that gear (me diff being forgetful counted before i put it back together and now i for get either 10 or 11 .. i have a ford read end that i lost the ring and pinion in last year so i hauled it apart for curiosity and took out the spiders and side gears and to me they look the same thats in my truck, anybody have any input on if its going to work or not before i start hauling it apart again ..
P.S. not getting a new one because the dodge dealer here said I have to buy the kit with all the gears and its 400+ bucks. lol
Thanks guys.

Welcome Mr CN. That is a lot of kilometers. However, thats only about 64k miles. Are you not still under a 70k warranty?
If just one tooth is missing and it still is ok, I might be inclined to still drive it. However, new gears do not cost that much. You can find some used gears and save some money that way though.

Hynes9000,
I'm guessing no chance on using the ford spider gear as a replacement. I'd try a salvage yard or a local garage to see if I could find an odd spider to use. If you decide to actually replace it I'd do a upgrade such as a Detroit, Auburn etc. If the spiders gears are the same as the OEM open differential, let me know as I have a spare.
