Default Pacestter LT Headers and Y-pipe, looking for install tips and tricks...

I've got a set of Pacesetter LT Headers, ceramic coated and I've got some questions as far as people who have installed these before.

The instructions say that everything can be done from underneath, but it is also my understanding that removing the wheel and wheel well makes things easier, what have you done?

2003 Dodge Ram 1500 2wd Hemi is what these are going on.

I've heard people say to go with Mopar gaskets, but wondered if Felpro would work just as well.

As far as the y-pipe my thoughts were to install them per the instructions, going into the stock cat, it seems like it should hook right up to the stock cat.

After getting it all hooked up I'll take it to the exhuast shop and have them do a dual cherry bomb exhaust from the cat-back and dump it just before the rear axle.

And one last thing -- I was looking at the line up between the LT pipes themselves and the header plate and even though the welds seem pretty thick, wouldn't the misalignment rob power, or would it seem nominal?

If you are using the stock cats, you'll have to modify them to fit and weld them in place. the cats 2.5" dia in/out and the header collector is a 3" dia and the Y is a 3" inlet dia for a slip fit connection.

Also going into the stock cat is going to require you to weld in a new rear O2 bung

I did remove my wheel liners to get to a few of mine and it helped. I didnt have to remove my tires because I have so much lift but if you have no lift then you might have to.

Also keep an eye out for the clearance between the pass side LT and the tab or ear or the trans. They come very close and it may be to be cut out

Hey guys i am fixing to do the same thing this week.

AF Hemi did you put cats on yours? And if you didnt how does it run.

I ordered the Pacesetter LTs with 3" offroad Y Pipe along with the mopar gaskets
Also since ive heard the stock cats are high flow how difficult would it b to reuse them especially since i bought the Y Pipe already? I have all the cutting tools and such available to use.

Thanks guys

I didn't purchase the Pacesetter "Y" with my headers because I couldn't see a way to make it fit with the cats, dunno, maybe if you have it in hand you may can figure a way to get them to both go on there, but at the time I ordered my headers, it just didn't look too promising. So I had my local Meineke guys fab me up a better flowing one than the stock POS.
It's not as open as the Magnaflow, but a hell of a lot better than stock, and is only about a foot long and they only charged me $20...

The way we did mine with the stock cats and the Pacesetter Y was to cut the Y just after the slip connection to the header collector (so about 3-4" down), we then stuck that end on the cat and marked the cut lines on the cat and cut them to match the inlet of the pipe on both sides and welded everything up. The cat itself does not start the filter until you hit the main body (so the 4-5" round part of the cat) everything that tapers up to that point is empty space so you have plenty of room to cut them to the right diameter.
