06 Hemi - Crazed Tachometer
Hey All,
My tach has been possessed lately and finally went kaput I think. Recently it had been reading like 300 RPM when cruising and I'd hit the gas and the tach did nothing, unless I hammered down the gas, it'd jump to 5K then shift through all gears correctly but drop back down. Then about a week later it was doing the same thing except it was at 0 or less most times. Then today it jumped up to 5K, flung back down to 0 and spiked back to 5K bounced a bit then wound all the way around to the underside of the 0 peg, and is stuck there. Anyone have this problem? Any solutions, or at least ideas as to what to try to solve this problem?? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank You in Advance,
Eric

Has your dash been apart lately? We had an SRT 10 and the installer of the radar jammer had the dash and gauge cluster apart and what happened was the fascia that has the numbers on it lifted and the needle was hanging up on it causing erratic movement like you described. This is just a possibility could very well be electrical too.

Sweet. Not that I'd pay $600...I'll install it myself, but I'm sure the part itself is at least $200. I love putting money into (besides maintenance) vehicles when they aren't even paid for yet

Mine does the exact same thing. It's definitely in the dash. If I smack the dash while sitting there at idle, it will pop back up to about 650 and then back to 300.
