Default T-pipe vs. CAI

What would you do, is it possible to do a homebrew T-pipe?

Advantages vs. Disadvantages of each?

That's what I was thinking it was called ... just saw both ways and wasn't sure of an advantage or disadvantage.

it really doesnt matter either way. A regular CAI shoves about as much CFM into the engine as it'll take, so having more air going in isnt gonna make a bit of difference. You can chug from a garden hose or a fire hose, either way you can only take in so much water. In this case its air into the engine.

There are 2 reasons people do the T-intake. 1) its different and looks cool. 2) it opens up the fender wall for something else (like a second battery).

I was also looking at the t-pipes, you can get them on ebay for around $60 and it would allow me to do both things AF Hemi mentioned; it looks cool, its different, it increases air intake, and it would allow me to put a battery for my sound system where the original box was.

I never said it increase air intake. Actually it doesnt. It throws more air at the engine, but i doesnt go anywhere cause the engine can only inhale so much air. There is ZERO advantage performance-wise to the T-pipe vs. regular.

I understand that the engine can only bring in so much air but I thought there were enough studies done that it was pretty much accepted that the stock box with the crappy filter does not give the engine all the air it really wants, especially when paired with a new high flow exhaust. Like drinking out of a hose with a very fine mesh grate over it, take off the grate and the water flows much more freely.

i would of figured the dual filters would be at a disadvantage seeings how they sit right above the motor. is there not alot more heat sitting right above the motor where as a normal cai or even the home brew ones you can tuck down behind the bumper or headlight where there is no heat around it.

Ah i see, we're comparing apples and oranges. I was saying there is no performance difference over the T-pipe vs the regular aftermarket CAI (like K/N). You're absolutely right about the stock box. Anything will flow better than the stock "hemi hat" system.

There is more heat from the motor up there, but there is also a lot of wind coming in through the grille.
