can an 04 5.7 hemi magnum have a mds installed?

 

Not sure of the answer, but y would you want MDS? I have it in my 06 but shut it off with my SC. It was so annoying after I installed my magnaflow catback. I also didnt notice any difference in gas mileage.

 

On an 04, NO. You would ned to change the ECU along with a few other things including the cam and lifters..etc.

Also, Most guys on this site either turn the mds off or remove it completely from their trucks. MDS is very innefective for a 5k+lb vehicle. While it may be efffective in a car or much lighter vehicle, 4cyl is NOT enough power to even keep the Ram at a steady speed. My truck always slowed down when mds kicked in because of the lack of power. That means constant on/off with mds and then a downshift to bring the truck back up to speed. I drove for 50 miles on the highway and my truck kicked in/out of mds and downshifted into 4th approximately 30times. How F'in annoying is that? I was on level ground for the most part and the bed was empty.
MDS can shove it as far as I'm concerned. It's an EPA and sales gimmick for fullsize pick-ups. Not to mention the SAME 4cylinders kick out causeing more wear to those cylinders over the others.

I wouldn't say it's not possible. Until the tuners starting offering the MDS delete function, KRC was selling a kit with all the hardware to install in the engine to make it a non-MDS engine and also required a tune.

So I would imagine if you stripped it down and installed all the MDS parts and had a tune done, it would be do-able. But why???

I really don't care for the MDS system, sounds terrible with aftermarket exhaust IMO and with it off my MPG's seem to be the same. Now on my 300c I think it works great but the 300's tranny doesnt lug itself out like the trucks and I do indeed get the 23-25mpg on the highway as advertised.

 

I have a customer with a ram that gets 20 mpg on the highway, im lucky to get 15 (think it was because of hte wheel bearing that was falling appart)

 

I've been experimenting with MDS for the past few weeks and noticed no real difference in gas mileage. I'm keeping it off now because it feels less responsive when it keeps kicking in and out of MDS.
