Default Dodge Ram Hemi Exhaust Question

i have a 2003 ram 2500 4x4 with the 5.7 hemi, its single cab with the long bed. I was planning on redoing the exhaust this summer, i have done single in dual out flowmaster 40 series before and they sound great. I have a few friends that have done just a y-pipe after the stock cat and no muffler out the rear. I was wondering if this would cause any damage to my truck not running a muffler? i know it will be loud but i personally like the sound of both the FM 40 and no muffler.

Maybe the loss of some higher frequency. I can't hear most of what my wife says... But nothing mechanical to the truck. I had a friend do this a while back. And I will say again, that dude was loud...

I ran my 98 dodge Ram with the 4.7 for 6 years like that. sounded great. I now have the same truck as you and have run and E-Cutout so that I can be loud and wide open or close it and be stock quiet for when I work the late nights so it don't disturb anybody.

hahaha yeah thanks REDTRUCK, sounds good to me. Im not married so no worries yet. We dont have many neighbors so it shouldnt be an issue either waking them up.

REBEL61021 i appreciate the quick response, your information is very helpful. i just didnt want to do the y pipe with no muffler and down the road find out it caused damage to my truck. how loud was your 98 inside the cab with the y pipe?

inside the cab was not to bad but I also had about 500 watts going to my Subwoofer so that helps cover the drone. outside the truck my wife could tell when I was coming home she could hear the truck when I turned the corner 2 blocks from where I live.

it was 3" all the way out the back. I liked it for what it was then it was the cheap way to make my truck loud and mean. Now that I am a little older I really enjoy the E-Cutout because I can choose to be loud when I want to show off, or quiet when on long trips with someone in the truck with me and we want to talk with out having to talk over the exhaust. As far as recommending it I would if that is what you want but I would really recommend looking into an E-Cutout just so you have more options. here is a link to my smugmug pictures of my truck if you look through them you will find where I had the E-Cutout put on http://stuckey.smugmug.com/Cars/2004...60945691_eKVhz

4.7 on a 98? I had a 5.2 on my 98... I dont think 4.7 started until 02... not in the rams at least.
