You know, I never was a big fan of playing in the mud. I had my moments, but never really kept with it. I always enjoyed the rock crawling.

You want to avoid putting new gaskets on. Im looking into putting new gaskets and studs on my powerstroke, just as a precaution, and the dealership wants to charge me $2500... IN LABOR ALONE! With that quote, I will be into my truck around $3300 by the time the job is done. But I would rather do it while im planning to, than when Im not, and am broke!!! lol

HOSS, taking care of your vehicle is key, however you might putting too much thought into it. I think if you regear and lift it, you will be fine. Regearing will actually make it easier on your motor to get your truck moving; so you would be helping in the respect. Just change the oil regularly, and at 60,000 miles, run some seafoam before an oil change, and you should be fine.

2002 4.7 here with 150k..My mods are 4.56 gears, 35" tires 7" lift, h/o cams, superchips, etc etc..I take my truck both to the track and off roading.
I always prefer to over do it with the maintenance like flush out the coolant every summer and so on.
Even the guys who are running major engine mods, with custom tuning have no issues and they visit the track frequently. The 4.7 is good reliable motor.

Maintanance is the best prevention. My 05 just went over the 151,000 mark, and it is constantly loaded and pulls trailer frequently. The stock 1/2 ton 6 spd is the weak point. I had mine rebuilt again not too long ago. The new 3/4 ton axle is working out really well, and I love the 4:10 gears over the 3:92 that it had.

We need to do studs on Dads 6.0. Up here for labor, ARP studs and EGR delete it comes to 5k. Sounds like we should almost drive across the border more often.

Man I wish you'da gotten something other than that 6.0 Furd! I was just on my outdoor/huntin/fishin' forum for Georgia folks where almost every member has a truck or suv and you wouldn't believe the Ford 6.0 Powerjoke issues posted in the section for help with your vehicles!!!
I would estimate that 6.0 Furd owners make up MAYBE 5% of the member base IF THAT, but have about 1 in every 5 or 6 posts! And they almost always seem to be MAJOR engine issues and not just the "what size tire" posts...

I dunno he got a good truck for the money. The only short coming is failures due to over heating or being over worked. Put the studs and EGR block off in and these trucks are golden. As far as I'm concerned Ford dominates the HD market.
