is rough, i think ol pyro has almost 200k on his, dont know if hes had any major repairs but seems to be the weak link would be them pesky head gaskets and overheating. keep up with maintenance especially with the coolant. that reminds me i need to get some stabilzer in there since i forgot it when i flushed it.

It depends on how hard you hit them mudholes!! Ive got over 50k, but Im not too hard on mine either, a little heavy-hauling now-n-then, but nothin major. I would think we have more to worry about with our trans then we do our motors.... You have even less to worry about, being manual and all (yea yea yea I know I know ) Even if it does **** on ya, it'll be cheaper to rebuild/replace than our autos....

Last I did any work on Pyro's truck he had a little under 120k on it. BUT, I've got two buddies with 4.7s, one a Dak, one a Grand Cherokee who both have over 225k miles on them. The Dak has had a tranny rebuild but that's the only major work done, the Jeep has had a water pump at about 160k miles.
I've got 92k on the 4.7 HO in my Grand Cherokee and it runs like a top, but the HO has some major component upgrades including some forged components as opposed to cast.
THE KEY, is keep up on the fluids, especially the coolant. This engine is prone to MAJOR problems if allowed to overheat. Also the stock radiator is prone to caking up and rusting out, so I'd suggest if there is an area to double up on the maintenance it would be there...

Also true, where the balancing act comes in. You don't want to put in a cooler thermostat because hotter oil does not sludge up like cooler oil will, but you can't take a chance on an overheat or you'll be looking at new heads and that is $$$$$!!!!!

Thanks dudes, yea i am wanting to install a 3" BL and some 35s with 4.56s gears this winter but didnt want to if i was going to have any problems down the road no matter wat, know wat i mean.. but yeah i keep up with the coolant, esp. after readin all these thread about head gaskets, scares the crap out of me... but thats awesome to hear 200k+ thats wat i was after... and plus wouldnt installing 4.56s gears make it alot easier on my tranny?
Bear- hahaha no more mudholes for this truck, maybe some little ones going huntin and $hit, but for the big ones, i got a project for them
