Well i hate to bring up a old topic, but just got some full time work and able to afford ordering some tie rod ends.
But now that i am looking at www.rockauto.com i am seeing a few different parts for the 06' 1500, there is a 14mm thread, a 17mm thread, and also outter tie rod ends for the crew and the mega cabs.
I know the 14mm is going to be too small, but my question is, can i just order any of the 17mm tie rod ends for the CC or the MC and it will be the same part sent to me?

You cannot count the turns. Well, you can I suppose, but I wouldn't reccomend it. Diff manufacturers have different length molds and thread machines. They will all be different. While it will get your tierod on and to a close shop, I prefer to do this method as it's much more accurate:
Mark a spont on the inner tierod to measure from. This can be a scratch in the metal or a piece of tape. Now, measure from that mark to the center of the old tierod while it's on the vehicle. This will be where the grease nipple is. Right in the center of the round area. Write that measureent down. Now, your gonna wanna install the new one to that same measurement.
9x's out of 10 if you take your time and are precise enough, you may not even need an alignment! I have done this one a few cars. Did it on my '95 Stratus and did both sides at the same time...never had an alignment and drove the car for 2yrs after. Tracked straight as can be and never wore the tires funny. Put 25kmi on that car.

Talking

Oh great tip! I was wondering that myself a bit ago, but figgured i would test it out as i did it and see.

I talked to the stealership and they tried to sell me one of the stock ends with no grease nipples for $20 more then rockauto is selling me two with nipples and shipping... But that is besides the point.
They said there is no difference in the 06' 1500 front end steering, unless you have a sport, laramie, SRT-10 .... but this is from a guy that deals only steelership parts.
And that is why i asked if there was any difference between the QC and the MC tie rod ends

Have guys been able to get new outer tie rod's for both sides? i know that might seem like a stupid question.. but, i have an 06 SLT QC, and went to rockauto, but they only show the ES3625 for the driverside. so i called and asked them if the had ability to order the passenger side. after they couldn't find it they called the manufacturer and for whatever reason the passenger side isn't available to them.. i only need the drivers, but i'm of the opinion if one is failing, replace both?

Replace both. The left and right side are the same part number.

Thanks for the confirmation weedahoe...
i assumed that and thats the reason i called rockauto, but they said we wouldn't call LH if it was the same for both... i didn't pull the wheel on the passenger side, but visually they looked the same.

what did we do before the internet and Dodge forum to get straight answers??

Autozone and Advance have loaner tie rod tools and I highly recommend you get these, will make your life much easier. I installed the new tie rods in exact same position (number of turns) as old tie rods and my truck tracked straight. I decided to get an alignment anyway and was toe out by .37 on both tires.
